My husband and I laughed at the idea of hypnobirthing.
During my first pregnancy, I decided to have a pregnancy massage (which was lush and I would highly recommend). When I was left in the room to get dressed, I noticed the lady had a few leaflets. So I had a peak and saw one that said ‘hypnobirthing’. I asked her what it was and to be honest she didn’t do the name justice. I went away thinking ‘what a load of hippy bullshit!’
When I arrived home, I told my husband about it and boy did we have a laugh.
“What’s she going to do hypnotise you!”
That was the end of it. We didn’t research into it. I didn’t go back for another massage because I thought she was going to get me into some voodoo shit. I just left it.
What a big mistake that was!
If only this lady new the difference hypnobirthing could have made to her birth.
If only this lady new about the postpartum recovery after having a traumatic birth experience.
All because I thought hypnobirthing was silly. Because I didn’t do my research. Because I thought you couldn’t prepare for birth and you just went with the ‘flow’.
Safe to say, I didn’t make the same mistake twice! After speaking about my birth experience, a friend mentioned hypnobirthing again. I started to roll my eyes, until she FULLY explained it to me. The concept, the birth preparation, how strong she felt advocating for herself.
I felt so inspired that I signed up for a hypnobirthing course that very same day!
Don’t make the same mistake I did guys!
BTW if you want a pregnancy massage (not from the lady I went to!) I would highly recommend The Postnatal Midwife, Kent.

You’ve probably heard someone say, “Why plan for birth when birth never goes to plan?” Let me tell you why that argument doesn’t quite hold up.
Yes, birth rarely goes exactly as hoped — but it’s the moments when things go off-plan that knowing your options matters most. I know this because I’ve been there. Even though my birth didn’t unfold the way I imagined, having a plan was the single biggest reason it was still a positive experience. No one can predict what will happen in labour (despite what some might claim), but you can walk into your maternity unit feeling informed, confident, and in control — with pain-busting tools to lean on when things get intense and resilience to cope for longer when it really counts.
“I was extremely nervous and worried about the thought of giving birth, so signed up for one of Katie’s free Hypnobirthing taster sessions. It was a great introduction and made me keen to learn more. Following this, we signed up for the 1:1 hypnobirthing course. Katie shared some amazing techniques, the ins and outs of birth and empowered me to approach birth in a positive way.
I went into labour naturally, and really benefitted from the breathing techniques and not being afraid to question professionals! Thank you Katie.”
