What to do if your baby is breeched.
What does it mean if your baby is breeched?
This means that baby’s bottom or feet are positioned in the bottom of the uterus instead of the head. If this happens earlier on in pregnancy, try not to worry as baby still has time to turn and change positions. However, if this happens later on in pregnancy, it can be more difficult for baby to turn.
You have a few options here. You can;
Choose to have an elective caesarean and still have a very positive birth experience which I can guide you through on a positive caesarean birth course. https://nurturedbeginningshypnobirthing.co.uk/hypnobirthing-course-ashford-kent/p/hypnobirthing-caesarean-ashford
Still decide to try for a natural birth with baby in a breech position but need to understand the benefits and risks to this. Speak to your midwife or consultant about the best options for this.
Accept an External Cephalic Version (ECV) which is when doctors try to manually turn baby. Again, it is important to understand the benefits and risks of this and to understand that the success rate is 50%. https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/labour-and-birth/if-your-baby-is-breech/
Finally, you can complete some natural exercises to try and encourage baby to turn themselves such as the ‘breech tilt’. Spinning Babies is an incredible site to look at for videos and tips on how to complete these exercises. https://www.spinningbabies.com/pregnancy-birth/baby-position/breech/flip-a-breech/
